Phil (drums) answered kindly to our questions...

1) Who are Kicker? Can you tell us where you´re from and who plays each instrument in the band?

kicker are jill drew (vocals, violin),ben phillipson (guitar), laura bridge (guitars, drums and keys), andy jones (guitars) and phil sutton (vocals, drums and a little guitar). we all live in london.

2) Why a lot of 7" singles before the album? why always vinyl? do you hate cd?

It was easier and more convenient to do 7" singles. We like CD's although vinyl is more aesthetically pleasing.

3) Some of you play in other bands or have played in other bands in the past... can you tell us about that?

Laura plays in Harper Lee and Sally Crewe and the Sudden Moves and she used to play with Hood.  Phil was in Comet Gain and Velocette.  Andy played one gig with Girlfriendo but he doesn't like to talk about it.

4) How about the london scene? which bands would you stand out?

I'm not sure if there is a London scene bar the shows that Track & Field put on.  However, we use and endorse the Projects, Saloon, and all our lovely label-mates.

5) Do you live on music? How is an ordinary day in your lives?

Don't be daft! ;)  It's not about the money, man.  It's about rockin out!

6) Which bands influence the sound of Kicker?

Dusty Springfield, Stereolab, the Byrds, and a bit of French pop.

7) Do you prefer the studio or gigs?

It differs with each band member.  I myself prefer being in the studio although live we are a five-headed rock beast.

8) Do you consider yourself part of any scene?

Not really.  We tend to see ourselves as outsiders, litter on the breeze.  Hmmmm...see above.

9) Any covers in your gigs? which ones?

We're not big on covers but we have been known to do the following: Parking Lot by Galaxie 500, Since You Left by the Inticers, You Ain't Goin Nowhere by Bob Dylan, and That's Livin Alright by Joe Fagin (the theme tune to Auf wiedersehen Pet).

10) When are you coming to play to Spain? Have you ever played out of England? Do you know any spanish band?

We'd love to come and play Spain.  When do you want us?

11) Laura told me that you had plenty of new songs, and that you would release a new record after the summer... can you tell us about this album? new songs previously unreleased in 7"?

We're recording our debut album over the summer.  We think the songs are a lot stronger than those on Fivefortyfives and the addition of Ben has made our songs more guitar-based although Kay from Comet Gain is playing some lovely Hammond organ on most of the songs.  She's the new Martin Duffy!

12) Are you playing in any festival this summer?

We're not playing any festivals this summer. See question 10.

13) Which bands are you listening to recently?  What are your all-time favourite albums?  And the last album you've bought?

Again, I can only speak for myself.  I saw the French (Darren from Hefner's new band), and they were very good.  I also saw the Butterflies of Love and the Rapture, and they were both very good. My favorite albums are Notorious Byrd Brothers, Jackson Pictorial Review by Felt, and anything by Francoise Hardy and Dusty Springfield.  The last album I bought was Adam Green's new one.

14) If you want to add anything, this is the place!!!

Thank you very much for your time, Rafa.  Hope to see you very soon.
